Govt releases Rs 8 cr in house tax grants to local bodies

MAPUSA

Panchayat Minister Mauvin Godinho on Wednesday informed the Goa Legislative Assembly that the State government has released around Rs 8 crore in grants towards house tax dues, benefiting 21 village panchayats and four municipalities.

Godinho said the grants cover the period from 2017 to 2026 and will provide financial support to the local 

bodies. He said efforts were being made to ensure the grants reached the concerned panchayats before Ganesh Chaturthi.

Godinho was replying to a question by Poriem MLA Deviya Rane, who sought details on the release of grants to panchayats.

The minister said the funds would help strengthen the financial position of local bodies.
